Gunstock Mountain Resort is hosting two sanctioned Giant Slalom (GS) races under the lights on Saturday, February 2, 2013. This event includes back-to-back GS races and provides a chance for New Englanders to earn maximum GS points while meeting and skiing with members of the U.S. Telemark Ski Team!

Telemark GS is unique because it adds a Nordic jump and gatekeepers to a standard GS course. The Nordic jump gauges the field’s ski jumping ability, with a 3 second penalty assessed for missing (i.e., landing uphill) of the jump line. The gatekeepers ensure that each competitor makes a true telemark turn and often cheer for the competitors (to learn more about Telemark rules, the Telemark turn, and gate judging, please view this video).

Race categories include Citizen’s, Junior 1, Junior 2, and Expert. Competitors racing to earn points must have a current USTSA competitive membership (click HERE to become a competitive member). All other categories are open to the public. Experience and speed-suits are not necessary, however, helmets are mandatory (please note that competitors racing in the Expert division must wear full-sided helmets with ear protection).

Also, volunteers are needed to gate-judge. Gate-judges get the best seat in the house, and receive a free lift ticket for February 2^nd. Consider signing up a friend, hitting the slopes, and volunteering in the evening!

Please note that all racers must sign releases for both Gunstock Mountain Resort and USTSA prior to receiving a race bib. Racers under age 18 MUST have their release signed by a parent to race. Print out copies of the waiver here and bring to check in to speed up the process:
