My Skiing History:
Even though I didn’t grow up in a family of skiers, I have always enjoyed winter activities. I started skiing at age 10 with my middle school ski club. I still remember the feeling of excitement that I had from gliding down that little hill. I was instantly hooked! I grew up alpine skiing in the Catskill Mountains of New York State. After high school I began to explore the bigger ski areas of New England. When I had an opportunity to move to Silverthorne, CO for a winter, I spent more than 100 days on snow at Keystone, Breckenridge, and the particularly challenging Arapahoe Basin, developing my alpine skiing style.
After I moved back East, a good friend introduced me to telemark skiing. I was immediately taken by how different the traditional telemark turn was from fixed-heel skiing. I spent many seasons learning this new sport. I enjoy skiing everything from side-country powder stashes to steep bump runs. I gradually worked my way up to being able to ski the whole mountain using a wide variety of both telemark and alpine skiing techniques. In 2012 I was invited to join the Connecticut Industrial Ski Council (CISC), a recreational ski racing league.

My Goals and Motivation:
Skiing a classic telemark race course requires a balance of skills. I want to continue to fine-tune and elevate my technique in an effort to one day finish races without penalties and feel that sense of satisfaction that comes from knowing you have prepared as well as possible for race day. For me, joining the USTSA has been a terrific way to get to know a fantastic community of people who enjoy sharing their knowledge of telemark racing with one another. I hope to help increase awareness and support here in the United States for this most deserving sport.
