Vail, CO – Sprint Classic – sanctioned race

Vail Resort and Vail Mountain School will host a Sprint Classic race on Saturday January 12, 2012. This 2nd annual event draws skiers from Colorado and surrounding states. This is a two run format and includes a nordic style jump, a 360 degree banked turn and a nordic skating section. No experience or speedsuits are needed, just a love of tele. There will be men’s and women’s divisions with a junior, citizens and expert classes. Following are the details:

Schedule of the event

The race will be a sanctioned USTSA Sprint Classic event on held on Gold Peak at Vail. Registration will occur on race day, but all participants will need to have both the attached waivers signed in order to compete. If the racer is a minor, a guardian must sign these forms as well.

7:30-8:30 Registration at Gold Peak
8:00 Coaches meeting
8:30 Load Chair 6
8:45-9:30 Course inspection

9:15 Jump practice
10:00 First run with second run immediately to follow
12:00ish- upon completion of the race, we will group up athletes and coaches from different teams to spend the afternoon skiing Vail together
3:30pm Awards after free skiing

Costs

Entry into the race will be $30. Vail has generously offered to comp lift tickets for youth racers and coaches. Lift tickets for adult competitors and parents will be $55. The course is visible from the bottom of the venue for interested spectators as well. Checks for entry fees need to be made out to Vail Mountain School.

Transportation

Competitors have the option of parking in the pay lot for Vail Village and then taking the in-town bus or walking from the parking structure to Gold Peak. The other option is to park for free in the Vail Mountain School lot and to take the town bus to the Vail Transportation Center followed by the in-town bus to Gold Peak. Buses from the school leave at :02, :17, :32, and :47 after every hour. To get to Vail Mountain School, exit I-70 at exit 180. Then, travel west along the north frontage road which is parallel to the interstate. Take the second right on Booth Falls Rd, and an immediate right into the school parking lot. The bus stop is on the west end of the parking lot.
