Karbon US Telemark National Championships – Eldora, CO
March 14, 2019 @ 8:00 am - March 16, 2019 @ 5:00 pm
The Karbon US Telemark National Championships will be returning to the West this year with three days of racing at Eldora Mountain in Boulder County Colorado. This event is in conjunction with a Tele Revival Festival which will also include demos and clinics. This three day event plus a training day on Wednesday is open to all levels and ages of Telemark skiers. We have a race category for men and women Citizens, Juniors and Experts. Join us for one day or all three. We plan to schedule this as a FIS points race for those expert competitors holding a FIS license. All racers who wish to compete at the Expert level and test themselves against the best US racers must have a USTSA Competitive Membership.
The three days will not only have an array of racing events, but also clinics and coaching available to all participants alongside top US athletes. This event is the highlight of the season, so put it on your calendar now! If you only attend one event this season, Nationals is always a great time with fellow Tele skiers.
Speedsuits are not necessary, but helmets are required.
Schedule:
Wednesday, March 13 – Training Day
Open to all who will be competing
Thursday March 14 – Classic
The Classic is the longest event and will be held at the Nationals. The Classic consists of one run with a course drop between 230 to 500 vertical meters. The course includes a jump, Rap, and long skate section or multiple shorter sections. Imagine lunging around 70 gates at 80 km/h (50 mi/h), flying 30 meters through the air, and then having to skate ski for a combined time of up to 3 minutes, sometimes up hill, to finish the race! Welcome to the Classic – Classics truly test the endurance of the athlete!
We plan to run two Classic races, one run each on this day.
Friday March 15 – Sprint Classic
The Sprint Classic is shorter than the Classic, but has all the features including gates, a jump, Rap and a skate section It consists of two runs with the times and penalties totaled together to determine the winner.
Saturday March 16 – Parallel Sprint Qualifiers and Parallel Sprint Race
The Parallel Sprint is the most exciting to watch of all of the telemark racing events. Two Sprint-length courses are set, and racers compete side by side in a tournament-style elimination bracket. Racers fly off the same jump and are funneled in the same Rap before having to skate it out on the flats. Penalties are totaled live on the hill, and racers are required to skate further if they have gate or jump penalties. Bring on course carnage and head-to-head competition!
