Vail Mountain Telemark Race Results

The 5th annual Vail Mountain Telemark Race was hosted by Vail Mountain School, Vail Mountain Resort, and the USTSA.  There were concerns about the race being hindered by heavy snow, but fortunately the snow held off until after the race.  The race had a balanced field of racers in the under 14 (U14), 15 – 18, citizens, and elite classifications.  The female elite was the only classification without at least three racers.  This was in part because World Cup team member Lyta Foulk was at home still recovering from a knee injury.  The race was held in Vail’s Golden Peak race arena and as usual the racing conditions were excellent.

The U14 girls was won Ada Montoliu (1st), followed closely by Harper Boggs (2nd), and Emma Poper (3rd) in a field or seven young skiers.  The U14 boys was won by Jackson Borg, followed by Finn Dresen and Dawes Stephanoff in 3rd.  And yes, Finn Dresen is ex-USTSA team member Charlie Dresen’s son.  He is passing the torch.  The U14 classification was boosted by a contingent five skiers from the Steamboat Spring Winter Sports Club telemark development program coached by Charlie Dresen.

The 15-18 classification included many high school students from the Vail Mountain School. Lilly Rumford was 1st for the girls followed by Larkin Armbruster in 2nd, and Chloe Pesso in 3rd.  For the boys, Peer Carnes was 1st, JP Elmblad 2nd, and Jake Vickerman 3rd.  The Citizen’s Men was won by Sean Durrum on top of the podium, with Josh Poper in 2nd, and Bill Haaser in 3rd.  The Elite women’s winner was Taylor Finn.  The men’s Elite winner in the nine-person field was the reigning National Champion Jeffery Gay.  Tommy Gogolen returned to racing following his knee rehab placing 2nd, and the up and coming Brenden Durrum placed 3rd.
