2012-2013 US National Teams Announced

July 16, 2012— The United States Telemark Ski Association (USTSA) announces the roster for the 2012-2013 US Telemark National and Development teams. Telemark racers from the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club fill many of the spots on the US Telemark National and Development teams, but there are also 4 racers from New Hampshire this season with a strong showing of racers from New England at the 2012 National Championships.USTSA

Zoe Taylor of Atlanta, GA and Steamboat Springs Colorado was the 2012 US National Champion and returns to the A team this year. In addition to her National Championship, Zoe has experienced success on the world stage with a World Cup win in the Parallel Sprint Classic race last season. Madi McKinstry, the 2011 National Champion, also had great success at the World Cup level last season with 2 third place finishes in the Classic event and a bronze medal at the Junior World Championships in the Classic event. Madi plans to attend Montana State University in the fall and then spend the winter in Europe racing on the World Cup circuit. Both US women will be strong competitors nationally and internationally this season.

Veteran racer and 2012 National Champion, forty nine year old Charlie Dresen of Steamboat Springs returns to lead the men’s A Team. This will be Dresen’s fourth year of competition in recent years, but he was also a US team member from 1999-2002. Joining him will be Cory Snyder of Franconia, New Hampshire; Jeffrey Gay of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Birk Larson of Salt Lake City and Tommy Gogolen of Breckenridge, Colorado. For the second year in a row, Gogolen is recovering from knee surgery and spending hours in rehab so that he can compete this next season.

Maggie Doherty of Whitefish, MT is returning to the B team this season after suffering an injury last year. She will be juggling a new job and a Master’s degree program in writing with her passion for racing this season. Joining Doherty on the B team is newcomer Sarah Carley of Brentwood, New Hampshire. Sarah turned in an outstanding performance to capture 2nd place at the 2012 National Championships. Returning to the B team for the men are Josh Lanzetta of Rye, New Hampshire and Andy Minier of Eden, New York. Joining them are Tanner Visnick of Steamboat Springs who moved up from the Development team as well as Chris Henery of McCall, Idaho and Cole Schneider of Whitefish, Montana who moved up from the Regional team after many years of dedication to the sport.

The Development team, created for competitors aged 17 and under, has three members this season that include Lyta Foulk and Jack Rosenthal from Steamboat Springs, Colorado and Dylan Weglarz from Durham, New Hampshire.

The US National team athletes will compete in regional, national and World Cup Telemark events this coming winter. Dates for regional races and the National Championships will be determined at a later date.
