USTSASunlight Sprint Classic

Thirty-three competitors battled the gates, the rap, the skate, and the heavy snow and fog on Saturday at Sunlight Mountain Resort.  Madi McKinstry was the fastest woman on the course, and the only women’s elite racer.  This was a good warm up before her departure this week to Norway to compete in the World Cup events beginning next Saturday.  Charlie Dresen placed first in a field of 7 elite competitors followed by Tommy Gogolen in his return to racing after knee surgery and nearly 6 months of rehab.  Tommy planned to race at 70%, so watch out for him when he turns it up to 100%.  In third place was Joel Nylander who made the trip from Utah to compete.  Lyta Foulk was the fastest 16 and under woman and Brendan Durrum  had his 2nd win in two weekends in the 16 and under men’s division.  The 16 and older division was topped by Maddi Conlin for the women and Addison Baker for the men, both of Vail Mountain School.
