My Skiing History:

I started skiing in my driveway as a little tyke, at just two years old. My dad was an avid skier, so he was eager to get me on the slopes. There’s a hidden gem in Lincoln, NH, called the Kanc Ski Slope; Kanc for short. There, nestled in the White Mountains is a small hill with a rope-tow and two trails. I spent every moment of free time at the Kanc, skiing with my friends, and fell in love with the sport, along with the type of people it attracted. Before I knew it, I was chasing my dad and his crazy friends through the trees at Cannon Mountain in Franconia, NH. I started alpine racing in fun-races in elementary school, and soon after, caught the speed bug, and joined the Loon Race Team at Loon Mountain in Lincoln, NH at age 10. After a few years with LRT, I moved on and attended Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont for 1 year. There, I realized that serious alpine racing just wasn’t for me. So, I returned to NH to race for the Lin-Wood High School Ski Team.
Telemark skiing was always something I observed from afar, but in the 2010-2011 season, when team member Devon Wright found some old equipment for me and told me to give it a try, I fell in love. I picked up telemark skiing rather quickly and was hooked soon after I began.

My Goals and Motivation: Liza 2014 action-web

My number one goal is to have fun! I ski my best when I’m having fun, so I figure if I focus on that, then the results will follow.
A great former coach of mine, Aaron Loukes, used to start every day off with one question: “What’s today?” And the answer was always, and will always be, “A great day to ski!!!!”

What I love about Telemark Racing:

I love that Telemark Racing is so unique! It’s like a combination of all the best snow sports, made into one crazy sport of awesomeness! Also, the people in the telemark racing world are some of the best people I’ve met. The sense of community is so strong, and everybody is enthusiastic and supportive. You really can’t beat it!

Interesting Facts About Myself:

Aside from living my ski dreams, I’m also a student and aspiring Environmental Scientist. I totally geek out over a a well-designed map, and I love research! I have participated in various research projects at Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in NH, in collaboration with the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in NY. I currently attend Plymouth State University in Plymouth, NH, and just recently attended Montana State University in Bozeman, MT for a semester. The ski community in Bozeman is wonderful, and I plan on relocating there when I’m finished with school.
