2011 Telemark Regional Team Announced
Ten US Telemark Ski Association members have accepted their nomination to the USTSA Regional Team for the 2011 season. These members represent racers from a wide range of locations or regions throughout the US. Some of them are racing with the goal of making the National team in the future, some are Masters skiers who have a passion for the sport and have desire to be ambassadors for USTSA and telemark ski racing. “We are pleased to see the level of skiing and commitment from these new Regional Team Members”, said Russ Hobbs, President of USTSA.
Aiden Rohde is 17 years old and skis out of Steamboat Springs, Colorado. He is currently attending university in Sidney, Australia., but will be back in the states for the Winter as it is Summer break in Australia.
Andy Minier was a US National Team member for many years. He lives in Eden, New York and works at Kissing Bridge Ski Resort. Being a Regional Team member is a great way for Andy to stay involved in USTSA and his love of telemark racing.
Chris Henery has been on the USTSA race circuit and World Cup circuit for a number of years. Chris lives and works out of McCall, Idaho and will be traveling to Germany to teach some friends to telemark ski this November.
Birk Larsen is an Architect living in Park City, Utah. He discovered USTSA about 2 years ago and has enjoyed competing nationally and at the World Cup races in Colorado last season.
Scott Edgerton lives in Missoula, Montana and and races in the Masters division. His local ski hill in, Snowbowl, hosts a night league tele race that Scott attends regularly. This fall, Scott is traveling to Antarctica to work as Kayak master aboard an Expedition cruise ship. He’ll hit the slopes when he returns in January.
Larry Bosche lives in Berkeley, California and does most of his skiing in the Tahoe area. Last year we hooked him up with Drew Hauser who provided Larry with a few racing tips. From there, Larry decided to attend the National Championships and raced in the Masters division. He is now hooked on the sport.
Garrett Long is a Midshipman Second Class at the US Naval Academy. He is a member of the Naval Academy Ski Team where he races alpine and he is the President of the Honors Economics Society. Garrett will represent USTSA and the US Naval Academy at the World Cup races in Norway this year wearing his Academy speed suit and his USTSA jacket.
Maggie Doherty, Erica Ruta and Cole Schneider will carry on the long time tradition of high level telemark racing in Whitefish, Montana. Whitefish is home of 5 time US National Champion Kelsey Schmid-Sommer who retired from the team this year to raise her young son. She will work and train with Maggie, Erica and Cole at Whitefish Mountain Resort throughout the winter to prepare them for a great 2011 season.
Many of these racers plan to attend the Christmas Training Camp at Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club, the week between Christmas and New Years and a number of them plan to race in one or two World Cup events this season. Roy McKinstry will be the Regional Team Coordinator again this season.
