Sports briefs: Anderson dominates at Telemark nationals

Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club telemark coach Shane Anderson put on a show for his students Friday and Saturday.

Anderson won the classic and classic sprint events of the U.S. Telemark National Championships in Steamboat Springs.

He won Saturday’s sprint event with a combined two-run time of 1 minute, 48.05 seconds, barely ahead of Drew Hauser’s time of 1:50.33.

Anderson won Friday’s longer classic event by finishing more than seven seconds in front of Steamboat skier Ben Paley. Anderson finished at 1:45.29. Paley was second at 1:52.69.

Steamboat skier Lorin Paley had a perfect weekend denied Saturday in the sprint event.

After winning Thursday’s giant slalom, she won Friday’s classic race, finishing with a time of 2:02.12, just 0:00.33 ahead of Kelsey Schmid-Sommer.

Schmid-Sommer won Saturday’s sprint event with a combined time of 1:59.54, ahead of Paley’s 2:01.75.

The event wraps up starting at 10 a.m. today with the dual slalom race at Howelsen Hill.
