Saw the light on a trip to Taos NM in 1988, sold all my alpine gear to purchase a telemark set up and played around the Adirondaks until moving to Colorado in 1991, skied and worked in Winter Park and Eldora while competing in tele mogul events. Returned to Western New York in 1996 and took up racing again, this time on tele gear to make up for the lack of vertical and terrain challenges. I am currently employed at Kissing Bridge Ski Resort and am the head Is and IIs / University of Buffalo alpine coach (coaching and competing locally on tele gear!)
Competition Results: A handful of top 15 world cup finishes, a second and third overall nationally and a Slalom national championship. Eastern Championship and a first place at Kare’s race. If you have had the honor of meeting Kare Anderson you would know why this is a career highlight.
Goals, Attitude and Motivation: Top ten in a World Cup or World Championships and a National Championship in one or more events. I would like to improve in the classic event by concentrating on the skate more this early season. Fitting in racing and coaching with work and, most of all my wife Chris and two children, Reid and Sydney, is a challenge for the entire family and I would like to thank them for their support.
Why do you Telemark Race? Great people, great fun and more interesting / demanding than the alpine counterpart.
